Ochita Suprema...?!? This caricature is the latest online promotion on the Spirit Airlines web site. The ad states: “Justice Ochita Suprema Ruling against high fares. Fares as low as $8 each way!” Ochita Suprema roughly translates to Little Eighth Supreme, which was published the very day after President Barack Obama announced his nomination for Sonia Sotomayor, a Nuyorican picked to fill a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Is this ad reducing Sonia Sotomayor's promotion and this
historical moment for our community, to a Chiquita Banana stereotype?
